Join us for Barbour Week at County Clothes!

Barbour is not just the bestselling brand at County Clothes, it is a true British and international success story, with its range of coats, clothing, and accessories being sold across 55 countries worldwide.

Between Saturday 25th October and Sunday 2nd November, County Clothes will be celebrating Barbour with time-limited window displays and in-store showcases.

Barbour was originally founded in South Shields in 1894. Since then it has grown through five generations of family ownership, while still retaining its base in the North East.

For over 130 years Barbour has successfully balanced tradition with practical design and innovative materials, making it a market leader in weatherproofing and timeless style.

Barbour’s long relationship with waxed cotton began back in 1894 when founder John Barbour opened a shop in the Market Place in South Shields in the North East of England selling practical and hard-wearing oilskins providing protection from the worst of the North Sea weather.

From the Bedale, the Beaufort and the Border, the three jackets that made Barbour a household name in the 1980s to the more recent additions of the Northumbria, Corbridge and Sapper, these classic all-round styles continue to be much loved best sellers that will never let you down.

The Barbour Classic Northumbria Wax Jacket is one of the longer Barbour jackets for ultimate style and protection from the elements. The Barbour Classic Northumbria Wax Jacket has been made using Barbour’s heavyweight 8oz Sylkoil wax cotton, which means you will find no better comfort, warmth or protection when buying a classic jacket.

The premium waxed cotton construction is both abrasion resistant and water resistant, making the Barbour Classic Northumbria a genuine, heavy-duty coat which is great for forcing your way through bramble-infested thickets. Plus, there’s even the option to add a hood, such as the Barbour Classic Sylkoil Hood, or a liner, such as the Barbour Polarquilt Zip-In Liner for extra versatility.

Barbour’s most iconic outerwear choice, the waxed jacket, is a must-have in every man’s wardrobe. Designed to take you from country to coast to city and beyond, our waxed jackets come in a variety of unique styles that perfectly blend Barbour’s traditional heritage with contemporary designs. Offering durability, style and practicality, our men’s waxed jackets are an everyday essential, all year round. Celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, the Beaufort® was originally designed in 1983 as a sporting jacket. The style and design were inspired by Chairman Dame Margaret Barbour’s visits to France where sporting jackets tended to have more features and style than was usually the case in the UK at that time. The name, Beaufort® was chosen to highlight the continental character of the piece.

Interactive Design – The Barbour Beaufort® Wax Jacket boasts an interactive design that allows you to add a liner for warmth and a waxed hood for all-weather protection.
